Founded by the Peoples Temple in 1974 and led by Jim Jones, the settlement was officially known as the “Peoples Temple Agricultural Project” and was initially small, until most members of the movement left the USA in the summer of 1976. A total of 909 people died at the town in what Jones called “revolutionary suicide”, all but two of them from cyanide poisoning. Nine others were killed or drank cyanide on a nearby airstrip and in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital. The event remained the deadliest non-natural disaster for the US until September 11, 2001.

Why is this even under the Guyanese tag, no Guyanese took part in this shit, this isn’t our culture, this isn’t our legacy. We are a peaceful people this was Americans who came into our country and fouled our homeland with hate and greed. This person tagged this “know your past”, WELL THIS AIN MY PAST YOU AMERICAN SKUNT. I hate seeing this shit on the guyana tag.
